AM 950
|
The AM 950 tower site is located on
State Route 62 (Washington Street West) in North Dunbar. The four tower antenna
system shares a hilltop with a newer upscale residential subdivision. As you
can see in the pictures, the Bristol Broadcasting Company keeps the property in
immaculate condition. All towers appear to have been recently painted, the grass
has been mowed, and all protective fencing and signs are in place. Another
Bristol AM station, AM 1240 (1000 watts, omni directional) is now co-located at
the State Route 62 tower site.

AM 1300

AM 1300's transmitter and single
antenna are located on flood plain property just off US Route 60 and West Main
Street in St. Albans. As long as transmitter equipment and the antenna base is
protected from high water, flood plain property is a great location for an AM
antenna. At the base of an AM tower, there are over a hundred very long buried
copper wires. The ground moisture improves earth ground conductivity, which
normally results in improved range and coverage. AM 1300's tower appears to
need maintenance, as the tower is rusty and the paint is peeling. The
transmitter shack has also been an apparent target of recent vandalism.
